Last night was the San Antonio Rampage Teddy Bear Toss. Now if you’ve never been to one, they’re a really awesome sight to see and you should try to catch the next one they host.
The idea is simple, when the home team (in this case the San Antonio Rampage) score their first goal of the night, the teddy bears come flying down onto the ice.
The bears are for local charities that support kids and most of the events I have attended have been around the Christmas holiday. This years charities were
Family Service Association, Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA), and Teed Off at Cancer.
There is nothing more helpful for a kid experiencing a rough time in life than a teddy bear. Sure the kid wants a new Xbox or the latest iGadget, but give a kid a teddy bear and watch what happens. The bear becomes a friend, a confidant, a trusted secret keeper, and the only one who will listen without judgement. And bears give great hugs or they wouldn’t call them bear hugs, right?
I had a friend like that when I was a kid. Someone who knew me better than anyone else. Someone that kept me strong when life was tough and listened to all my worries and fears. He cried with me and laughed with me too. I even told him about my first crush on a girl. There’s not much I didn’t share with him.
A huge thanks to the entire Rampage organization and those in attendance for not only delivering all those teddy bears to the ice (great goal by the way!), but for making it such a magical event. You outdid yourselves Rampage fans and I couldn’t be happier to be a Herd Member right now if I tried.
